1. Krombacher Pils
In this article, I want to talk about Krombacher Pils, a beer from Germany. Krombacher is a beer that I purchased from a nearby mart, making it a convenient product to access.
Krombacher is influenced by the purity law of Germany, meaning it contains no other ingredients besides water, hops, barley malt, and yeast. Unlike the Weizen product I reviewed before, which contained additional wheat alongside the basic beer elements, Krombacher Pils is made with just these four ingredients.
The packaging of Krombacher Pils features a white background with a lighthouse symbol, representing Krombacher, and the founding year of the brewery, 1803, written on it. The words “Krombacher” and “Pils” are displayed, indicating the product’s identity and style.
Additionally, it states “Original Import From Germany” at the bottom, confirming it as an authentic product imported from Germany. Knowing that Krombacher’s flagship is Pilsner, I had high expectations.
2. Krombacher Story
1) Krombacher Brewery Story
The Krombacher brewery has grown to become globally renowned. They have been brewing beer in Krombach village since 1618, with the brewery itself documented in 1803.
In 1890, they first brewed the Pilsner, which gained significant popularity as a new style at that time. It subsequently gained international fame, as reported in newspapers.
Even within Germany, Krombacher competes for the top 1-2 spots in beer sales, brewing beer using only water, hops, malt, and yeast, adhering to Germany’s purity law.
2) Tasting Experience
Firstly, the foam comes out quite well and holds up nicely. The carbonation doesn’t feel too heavy when drinking. When smelling it, you can pick up hints of Saaz hops and malt. Starting with the foam, the beer’s flavor felt light.
The color is a transparent golden hue, and upon tasting, the bitterness of the hops is followed by a pleasant maltiness. The bitterness is stimulating to the palate and quite enjoyable. The strong malt flavor follows towards the end.
There’s a solid aftertaste that spreads from below. It’s a different charm from Urquell; if Urquell focuses more on hops, Krombacher Pils seems to emphasize the beer’s maltiness.

3. Overall Review
In summary, I think this is a robust and delicious Pilsner product with no shortcomings. Initially, the emphasis on Saaz hops’ bitterness followed by the barley’s nutty flavor was incredibly tasty.
While I felt the Weizen product lacked a bit in taste, there seems to be nothing missing in this Pilsner product. I would definitely consider repurchasing, and while I may not call it the best beer, I think it’s good enough to recommend to others to try.
