1. Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon(CAB)
In this piece, the focus is on Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon.
Recently, I’ve been exploring wines primarily made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, and since I enjoyed the Apothic Red I reviewed last time, I decided to purchase the Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in oak barrels for 3-4 years, it’s a blend of Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.
From the wine bottle, I learned that its vintage is 2020, and it’s described as a smooth, full-bodied California wine. It has an alcohol content of 13.5% and comes in a 750ml bottle. While its full name is Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s often affectionately referred to as Cab for short, hence the wine’s name, Apothic CAB.
Inspired by the mysterious place where wines were blended and stored in Europe during the 13th century, called the Apotheca, Apothic wines were created. Apothic Cab sources its grapes from the Delta region of California.
2. California Cabernet Sauvignon
While this variety is referred to as Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s also known as Cab. These names stem from regional and pronunciation differences.
California Cabernet Sauvignon is a favored style among wine enthusiasts. It was first cultivated in the 1800s and experienced a surge in popularity in the 1960s.
As a red wine grape variety widely used, it’s primarily associated with the Bordeaux region and is highly popular worldwide, including in the United States, particularly in California.
Thus, Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in California. It’s known among enthusiasts as the king of red grapes in the heavyweight category of red wines. It boasts balanced flavors and aromas, characterized by high acidity and tannins.
It can range from medium-bodied to full-bodied, offering a variety of styles. It features well-ripened black fruit flavors such as cherry and blackcurrant.
3. Tasting Notes
It presents a ruby-red color with hints of berry fruits like cherry. Additionally, there’s a subtle oak influence, perhaps from aging, with a faint hint of vanilla reminiscent of whiskey.
It has a good body, with flavors appearing more robust when the wine is allowed to breathe. The acidity and sweetness are moderate, making it approachable for those who enjoy wines with body.

5. Overall Review
Overall, it’s a good value wine for casual drinking. I found it preferable to wines like Barefoot or G7 Cabernet Sauvignon in a similar price range.
Therefore, if the price remains comparable, I would choose Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon. However, if it approaches the $20 mark, I might consider other alternatives.
Also, as always, wine pairing is important. Given its body, moderate sweetness, and acidity, it pairs well with meats. Beef, lamb, or pork would be suitable options as the wine’s robustness complements the richness of meat dishes
